This year, Ewing Athletics took a different approach to the usual Black Friday and Cyber Monday releases. Instead of blasting fans with alerts throughout the long weekend, Ewing silently dropped one of our favorite projects to date: the Big L Sport Lite.
The Big L Sport Lite was inspired by the Big Picture album cover and Harlem’s historic mural at Lenox Avenue and 140th. Its black and gold colorway informed the shoe while the iconic image of Big L we all know was placed on the tongue. Drawing from Big L’s raw debut album Danger Zone, “139” hit the heels of the shoe to honor his block. For a truly luxurious feel, the shoe features premium suede, gold lace tips, icy soles, and 3M reflective accents at the toebox.
Harlem native Vado grew up just a couple blocks away from 139th and made the proper introductions to begin this project. A film about Big L’s life is in the works and a trove of unreleased music has been discovered.
